I know that putting tomatoes in the refrigerator is not a good idea, although I must admit I do it anyway, since we go through them at an unpredictable rate, and refrigerating them makes them last longer, doesn't it? I would think so, although I have never really conducted such an experiment. Of course, I only do this with tomatoes that are very flavorful to begin with. A marginal tomato would not fare well under my system.

What does refrigeration do to potatoes? I don't refrigerate baking potatoes, but boiling potatoes are refrigerated at the markets here, so I assumed this was the correct procedure. No?
