Keep in mind that Vantive tries to manage expectations and earnings and not to expect a blow out in results. I keep hearing it was a good quarter, but they'll have to offset end of year purchasing and a $2 million sequential decline in EDS business.

Melis, calls look like quite the risky play from here. The stock is up over 12 points in last few weeks and while the outlook should be solid, the quarter will surely not be a blowout. DSO's will be up again and while it appears the transition from EDS to Lucent for visibility looks ok, Q1 is still the trickiest quarter to speculate on.

It seems the stock was being depressed from 1 very large seller (Putnam) and when they finally got the stock into stronger hands, the stock had no more resistance. Shorts probably are worried about a takeover by our friends in the East Bay. It will be interesting to see what Tommy & Johnny says about head-to-head competition this quarter. It will also be interesting to hear what Tom says about the Schwab account. Supposedly, Schwab likes VNTV support software (they chose it over Scopus/Clarify etc...). Schwab wants 1 vendor for support and SFA so it looks like it will be SCOP/SEBL integration vs. the Vantive Enterprise.
