Semiconductor maker, LSI Logic (LSI), announced today that CASIO Computer has adopted LSI's "DCAM-101" chip solution for use in its new line of digital still cameras. While this news won't have a significant near-term impact on LSI, it does indicate that the company is positioning itself to capitalize on new opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital still camera market. Some analysts have predicted that the semiconductor market for digital still cameras could reach $1 billion by 2002. This market will be intensively competitive, so it is important to develop strong relationships early in the game. LSI appears to be doing just that. LSI closed down -5/8 to 26 3/16.
