", a study is cited from Forrester Research, a top notch Internet market research firm, that expects 903,000 Smart Cards will be issued in the US and Canada for all applications in 1999, "

In my experience, these analysts are less accurate than brokerage analysts. I wouldn't trust anything Forrester has to say, having seen their methods (and having been a source for some numbers in one of their reports, which they published, without alteration, despite the fact that it was my idea of a "good guess", and not numbers based on reasoned analysis.)

Not to comment at all on where I think smart cards are going, I just wouldn't trust a report written by someone who has a vested interest in creating a specific perception.
