"Every car nut in the world is looking for a good 40 year old car that they can drive and fix up cheaply." Shoot. I'm always late. And now I'm a "car nut". I hate being stuff like that, a nut, although I like the fact you probably are and they're out there to give advice.

I need to ask Norton what his car was. It had an airplane or spaceshippy interior.

The cars on that page are interesting, some very, but they're Braque to the Renoir I was hoping to cuddle into. ("Well, duh! Can you afford a Renoir?" No, I can't.) You know, pointy going forward versus plump. (Or "streamlined")

The mechanical and "look-fors" of your post make good common sense to me, Dad. And if four doors get it cheaper, hey. That's the king of discounting I would be after. The sense of getting 3 or 4 years from new drive train. Yippee!.

Now, wait a minute, I feel like I'm shopping for a car.

Alex, in our teen years, cousin Dash had a 55 Willys, and it was a Tylenol headache. Fun, but.....disturbing. Used to take it out to Anza Borrego, and back in past The Lawrence Welk Hotel, where we scared the valet parkers. Never knew where it would "stop". Tappets, tappets, tappets.

<<Main thing is you want a Chevy 327 or 350 motor and an automatic trans.>> 327, hands down. Buy it complete in the next recession, assuming you've had the foresight not to burn all your money in the market. And by all means make allowances for a good home; an attached garage is a must.
