FTEL Followers -

I toured the FTEL facilities Monday afternoon with Helen West their investor relations representative. I told her that she should not tell or show me anything that they did not want to be public because I was representing an investment club. I was allowed total access to the facility and to several employees. Here is what I observed and was told. They are undergoing a major expansion, more than doubling their floor space. A new team to support the F-Net portion of the business had just arrived on site that day. GTE has installed a very high capacity fiber optic cable directly into the FTEL facility and it is operational. It appears to me to have a capability of handling in excess of 10,000 servers as it is an extension of the GTE internet backbone. GTE and WorldCom are business partners with FTEL in that they are suppliers to FTEL providing a means to an end as are Intel and Cisco. FTEL is a systems integrator that has three profit centers, (1) the Franklin Tempest Hardware seller, (2) the F-Net service provider (not to be confused with FNET on the NASDAQ) and (3) MIS, a web page and www server provider (www.miv.com). The facility and tools are first class but more importantly, the employees are happy and excited to be working there. Bottom line - FTEL is definitely in the game.

Let me give you my cut on why this industry is taking off. The development phase for the technology has matured even though there will be several upgrades during the next two years. The bottlenecks for internet voice, data and video transmission are the node points. FTEL, ETEL, VSTM, RMII, etc. are node providers, developing and installing state of the art digital transfer devices as key elements in their systems. These devices will continue to evolve with better and better design functionality. Anyone with enough money like Boeing and Bill G can build a transmission system but the first Teledesic test satellite only went into orbit February 25. The system is not planned for full service until 2002. Ground based providers and niche market fiber optics and satellite companies will own this industry until then. Exponential growth can be expected in this industry for the next two years and serious growth for at least two years beyond that. One more item, node providers must manage four functions therefore multi-processor devices (probably quads) will be needed to transfer voice, data and video simultaneously along with routing instructions. These should be available by the end of 1998 if not sooner. Does the Net Manage (NETM) contract with Intel begin to make sense?

I know we have some dart throwers and day traders here, but the rest of you should get off your duffs and do a little research. Someday I may start charging for this (with SEC approval of course). Please contact FTEL direct for any clarifications or additional info. I will not be responding to private inquiries.

No arguments from me, I am rooting for them, but let's get going, my patience has never been famous for being of the long kind.

As it is, I have surprised myself. I never knew how much patient I could really be! (or is it "Have to be"?)

When the satellite connection was announced, (Passport), I was thrilled, because it would give them the entire spectrum to access not only the US but the entire world.

Obviously it is easier said than done, but at this time, I am not picky, all I ask is that they get one sure thing and they hit the home-run we all have been waiting for. (even if bases are empty).

Now don't flame now, it is a simple matter, would you rather be at $3.00 or at $7.00. (we will worry about the $10.00's, $20.00's etc. later).

Something that bugs me is the WCOM has been upgraded to a definitive agreement, and the market, oh uhm, barely noticed...

I know, wait because :

Back to the patience pills..... (where are they?)
