This may be true, but recall that Bush did everything he could to make character the issue in '92 and it didn't work. I agree that had the things that have come out in the last few months been public in 1996 he wouldn't have been reelected.

I have admitted before on this thread that I voted for Slick in '92. It is not something I am proud of today. What really bothers me about him is his complete lack of guiding principles. Everything he did during his first term was done with an eye toward being reelected. I thought that, after his reelection, maybe he would demonstrate some decisive leadership. Instead, he is so worried about his legacy that he can't do anything without first checking the public opinion polls. And he cannot lower himself to admit when he makes a mistake.

I'll be glad when his administration is over.
