Hi Janice,

"Oh come now, Jack. You want REAL corruption in American politics, go back to the last quarter or so of the 19th century..."

Read the quote again. "There was never any thing... which in continuance of time hath not been corrupted:" That includes the 19th century.

Yes, all political systems have eventually become corrupt. My point is that the people have to get radical once in a while and throw them all out. In our case, with both parties bleeding the people to redistribute their money to each party's particular supporters, we need a third party to make radical changes. But the two party system is pretty entrenched, so it will be very difficult. Also the bread and circuses folks are pretty happy now.

But speaking of corruption now and in the 19th century, I don't know how you measure corruption. Is it in dollars? Numbers of people screwed (literally and figuratively in the current example)? Is it more corrupt to give foreign countries a break for their contributions than to favor domestic companies who pay you off?

I don't know. But I have a deep feeling that the Clinton administration wins the all time corruption prize. Also I dislike him for his phoniness and for personal reasons which I have admitted in earlier posts. And, although I find it embarrassing that he is such a crude lecher, I really don't give a damn, and that Paula Jones suit was really a piece of crap. But that sort of thing is what the Dems and their feminist friends have given us. Poetic justice for Mr.C.
