Matsushita's deal with C-Cube was for VCD chips. Matsushita was allowed to sell a fixed number of the chips royalty free. After that number was passed they need to pay a royalty.

Yes Billy they had/have a foundry agreement...
but it says Manufacturing and Sales Agreement.

As I recall...

they did some kind of deal in exchange for help with the .35 process.
It involved letting Matsu make and sell Decoders in trade for the .35 process. I believe we discussed it on this thread, or the ESS thread, as it related to cost reducing the VCD chip, in early 1996?.
We also thought at that time it was limited to MPEG1 decoders.
You might want to look through my heated exchanges with the ESS bulls circa early 1996.
