Silence, no Dwight is very Loud

Dwight, you are a very loud and outspoken proponent of religious bigotry, let me point out a few of your choicer comments.

Go ahead and claim that you are reasonable Dwight, would you like to see a condensed version of CHristine being hateful, sorry, no can do. I could probably get some mild material from her posts to you, but that would be perfectly understandable, don't you think.

Dwight, you have stated that because you work in your home, you would not hire a homosexual to work for you. You also stated that you would not support legislation guaranteeing homosexuals equal employment rights. I am sure you are probably aware that in most states, it is now legal to discriminate against them in hiring. These attitudes of yours would seem to be generally discriminatory towards homosexuals, although I am sure you have never personally hurt a homosexual (or his feelings).

I find it ironic that you would think I assume I am better than you are, or holier, or more righteous either, especially since I am not a religious person. People who argue in general for nondiscrimination, tolerance, acceptance, and the end of hatred and bigotry tend not to be very righteous.

Conservative Christian beliefs about homosexuality do tend to create a climate of silent encouragement of hate crimes against them. From 1988 to 1996, reported hate crimes against gays and lesbians have increased 260 percent, a rise which closely coincides with today's rapidly escalated religious hatred toward gays by the extreme right wing's thousands of mass media outlets (statistic from Stars and Stripes). I think this is unfortunate, especially since the very concept of homosexuality comes from the nineteenth century, not Biblical times. There is really no mention of homosexuality at all in the Bible--passages have been translated incorrectly, and interpreted wrongly.

These are urls which discuss different facets of homosexuality as it is viewed in the Bible, what the real problems were at Sodom and Gomorrah, and what Jesus said about homosexuality (nothing). Since it seems that a number of people who interpret the Bible literally are the ones who feel so negatively about homosexuals, perhaps their opinions would change if they understand the Bible is not saying what they think it is.
