Cyto, Well over here at the FTA (Federal Thread Administration) we've finally gotten around to reviewing your application for a new thread. (One of the advantages in being slow is that we get to evaluate a thread after it's already been out for a while. We've been accused of being overly cautious, but when you're trying to protect the mental health of biotech investors you can't be too careful, as they're already mostly circling the drain, and that's when they remember to take their meds.) Our top priority is of course safety, and not unreasonably we have some concerns here (remember CYTO? remember CMTR?) Fortunately for you guys, everyone here appears to be a holdover from the Reagan administration (I think they may actually have forgotten all about us, to tell you the truth). Thus the team we put on investigating those two unfortunate "incidents" appear to have had something of a memory lapse. Maybe they got distracted because they couldn't find CMTR anymore, or maybe they just got lost somewhere in the CYTO thread. On the other hand, even we must concede there have been some flashes of efficacy. Those CLTR and INCY scoundrels have yet to be unmasked, and once you added some SEPR I began to look on this application a little more favorably. On the other hand, some problems still remain. I've submitted some of the so-called humor on the thread to Mr. Starr's office for an opinion, and so you guys better pray that this Clinton thing doesn't blow over any time soon. Another issue is GZTC. I asked my most senior administrator to look into this and you know what he said? "I don't do goats." The most serious problem holding up your application is of course the LGND issue. Do you guys have any idea about the resources this has sucked up? Every single junior guy we've put onto reading the LGND thread so far has quit, muttering something about a Henry. Three months ago, I assigned my most senior investigator to this troubling issue. To date, he's reached post 135 on the LGND thread, and we're just going to have to wait for him to fully catch-up before we can definitively rule on your application. In the meantime, as some of us have gotta go do their taxes, we're granting you a strictly temporary permit to continue the thread until such time as we can definitively rule on its safety and efficacy. All in all a fine application. You really have done your part in keeping all of us here at the FTA occupied over the last year, and for that we thank you. Peter (FTA Commissioner)
