Sure. I ordered, asked politely what drive they were going to ship it with. They said IBM. Couple weeks later, the computer came in; drive was a Maxtor. I guess BTO and JIT aren't really for the lowly consumer, eh?

Compaq's branding hasn't fixed its inventory glut, but aggressive pricing will. Computers remain a commodity.
