You may be right...but I would sure like to see the numbers for myself....bankers are going to make their decision to lend based on net operating income, not asset value....they will probably use the assets as collateral, but lend based on income.

I think that the value of a company is best determined by profitability ( maybe because I'm in banking )rather than by book value. Book value gives me a theoretical base or resistance point for the stock price....after all, if you can sell the assets of the company and get your money back, it ought to be worth at least that much per share.

That's not to say stocks haven't fallen below book, it's just to say that the price probably won't stay there long.

Businesses that have a high cash throw off and very few hard assets can still command quite a premium.

Most of these calculations are, for me, a fun exercise for now because I really don't have enough data to reach any meaningful conclusions.

What I like about this thread is that there are some quality folks here who know how to look at the numbers. You are one of them so I hope you keep posting.
