freeus, I forgot to mention that O.K. didn't taste so O.K. (at least to me). It was test-marketed in some cities (ones with large college population).

The beverage I just don't get is Mountain Dew, and it's been around for a long time.

Saccerin maybe? It was my favorite sweetener: Nutrisweet gives me a headache if I drink a whole can of Diet Coke: I have to have the REAL THING or half a diet coke. I think that was the one that was banned. Wish the FDA would leave us alone to do what we please, make our own mistakes, and allow companies to put out what they want without taking so many years that costs go skyrocketing.
Happy Easter: Choc bunnies and coke do not go well together I think!

HW-- late response. It was sodium cyclamate; they determined that rats might get cancer if they consumed the equivalent of a freight car load of the stuff. Those rats must have been eating a couple of oz's of s.c. a day; not much time to consume any real calories. They probably got cancer simply from the surface irritation caused by so much crystalline material grating against the disgestive tract. BIG SCIENCE so often rewards us with garbage. dulane
