Hi Patrick, '87 certainly wasn't a bear market, it was an accident of faith in our government supporting the dollar. A bear market drags on and on, taking out your optimistic buying on weakness or seeming bottoms_ only to watch your stock fall further, piece by piece until you finally don't believe stocks are worth calling your broker or reading the back pages. They are the reverse of bull markets, as they have continuous opportunity to profit underneath the price over an extended period of time.
