Hi Fred. I am using a simple average of closing prices effective through today. I just quickly downloaded the last 20 closes for the SPX and calculated the average and it came up correct (with what I had posted earlier).

Fred. I get an average close to that for 4/8/98. Maybe your data is delayed a day or two???
