I'm about to install System Commander and Red Hat Linux to my home PC.

That'll break the MS OS monopoly. Take that Bill.

Does anyone have any warnings before I screw up my computer?

I may try Applix Anyware for a word processor and spreadsheet. If I do I'll let you know how it turns out.

<<If application code is downloaded from the net, you don't need a bloated OS on your machine. If your machine doesn't have to worry about managing a hard drive, this eliminates a lot of the OS code that can live in the browser.>>

Thanks. I'm starting to understand this better, but from what you have told me it seems that the MS OS will never be eliminated as the browser will still need a platform to run on. Given this as long as MSFT controls this point of access they should still enjoy a monopoly since 90% of all PC's are locked into their OS. It seems that Browsers pose more of a threat to their Application software business than their OS business. is this correct ?

Thanks. Mongo.
