Exercise my buy muscle you mean.

What is the path for Apple to expand along?

Their graphics/audio/video business motors along, under steady Wintel attack. People upgrade, but no new buyers and there is some loss of old ones.
This can be quantified by the sales of the special software for those markets. All but a few have gone Wintel and the WIntel sales exceed the Apple sales.

The general public buys at a low level, few new converts, all upgraders.

Same with the schools, no new sales, some upgraders.

The new OS made sales and also made upgrades from older. However that has now stopped and the steady decline will reassert.

Star Trek soon is the hope. Sell it against Windows to convert WIntels. As long as it runs all programs that Windows does it will become a csash cow for Apple. Apple can make boxes as well, with Intel CPU's. A possible rescue path.
