I heard yesterday from someone who works for CheckPoint:

Just before this quarter close time their salespeople were instructed to log new sales into the next quarter since they made all the numbers for this one.

In terms of short-term pricing for this stock just look at this stock's past history. Couple of weeks before CHKPF announces its earnings, the stock price quitely drifts down to a commonly perceived low number, and then you see a group of people who preach doom and gloom on this company, later the company announces great results and the stock goes up 30-40%.

IMO, if what I heard is true, then what stops CHKPF from achieving the rise of YHOO and alike in following weeks?

Well Frank,

Looks like you got your chance to buy more. Maybe the
market doesn't like this deal and dropped a bunch of points.
There seems to be a lot of selling these two days.
Who knows? It looks like we'll need a real blow out to get
some life back into this stock. You still sticking to your
estimate??

Anyway, earning is less than a week away. Good luck.

I haven't done a whole lot of thinking about the acquisition, but my initial take is that CHKPF is being very far-sighted and is thinking about the advent of mainstream mobile computing (with connectivity) and wants to provide security for this environment (they will be the only ones). I also believe they made this acquistion to boost their VPN push, not quite sure on the technical details at this point though. Deb Triant and Gil Shwed are very smart cookies, I believe they have a lot up their sleeves.

I hope they will still beat your estimate Frank, even with advance booking of the 2nd quarter (I am happy to hear about moving sales to Q2, it is a sign of health and giving Wall Street the smooth earnings increases it loves will eventually pay off, I hope). Maybe we will finally get a favorable market response even without a tripling of year-ago earnings. Too bad there aren't derivatives tied to beating the earnings estimates, we can't count on the stock to go up, hopefully with more attention now paid to the Internet stocks and the Gorilla Game CHKPF will finally become hot.
