Graystone, with the part about the drugs voodoo practitioners use, you have increased my knowledge of voodoo. I did not realize escaped slaves started it, although I never gave it much thought. I did read that there is now some combination of voodoo and Catholicism, but have forgotten whether it is in the West Indies or Africa where it is practiced. Voodoo and santeria are pretty unnerving to me!!! The original way voodoo came up was my comparison of Satan to voodoo--that Satan could not scare me because I am not afraid of him: Message 4029512 Obviously, a voodoo priest armed with malicious intent and psychotropic agents is a much more real threat!!
