Jim, Honest, I did not read a sexist bias into your question. Really, I didn't. I have known a few men who were intuitive and a few women who were not. I don't think that men are intuitive with regard to seeing through other men, rather I think people tend to judge others by themselves. I do think that men are more easily conned than are women, both by men and by women. This susceptibility to con artists is probably only partly due to what would seem to be an inherent lack of intuitive ability. I would even go so far as to say that in prehistoric times, prior to the existence of commonly understood communication, intuitive abilities were probably quite high in males and females, out of necessity. As we evolved, intuition went dormant. I think animals are highly intuitive, as are the people who understand them. Holly

So are men conned by women more easily or by other men? I'd say men are more easily conned in general. Women are better at spotting phonies in part because, as Holly says, they're more intuitive, but there's another factor: they listen more closely and they pay more attention to what the other person is telling them. Men pay more attention to externals: the position of the other person, his status, his power in relation to them. They tend to accept this superficial stuff as a fair indicator of the person's character. Most women would never dream of doing this. And of course, women talk more, and expect to be talked to. Many men are content to sit in silence for hours; most women are not. Women enjoy "personal" conversational topics more than men do. And that's how you find out what people are really like.
