David,

Well maybe your detector needs adjusting (re DJ, that neutral purveyor of all things MU) ... won't argue with you about 64 Mbytes. Maybe you'll be right but my understanding is that the sub-$1K PCs are not being loaded with 64 ... and IMO Win98 is a non-event for the great majority of PC buyers. The real trouble with 64 Mbytes is that you've still got too much supply.

Here's the valley that the forever-bulls are looking over ... baby, it's deep and it's starting to look wide:

MU's semiconductor biz (Feb. quarter results in brackets): Q3 est.

Units shipped (16 Mbit or equivalent): 110 million (79 million) +39%

ASP (16 Mbit or equivalent) : $2.50 ($3.61) -31%

Revenue : $275M ($283M) -3%

Costs (cost of goods,SGA, R&D) : $380M ($360M) +6%

Operating Income (not!) : -$105M (-$77M)

I figure the cost estimate is conservative given the ramp in 64.

regards, Mike
