The value added services are as follows:

1) Digital Channel Service
2)Digital Satellite News Gathering
3)Skynet Digital Video Service
4) Digital Content Distribution

All of these tend to sell small amounts of transponder time at a higher rate. Some involve compressing data on-location and broadcasting via Telstar(avoids delivering data to a location to uplink to sat), or working with ABC, FOX, CBS, etc. for news gathering and broadcast on location. Bottom line is to use a transponder in small expensive bits of time rather than selling a transponder completely for the lifetime of the sat.

Mike, I think what he meant is a simple as the difference between G* and SSL.

G* is a wholesale telecoms carrier, in addition to being responsible for designing and building the birds.

Similar plans for C*. Etc.

I think that's what he meant. Not plans to compete with HBO or Yahoo.

And its cause of the pots of gold which G* and C* could be bringing in.

Yes, I will be attending the annual meeting, missed last year's but I ain't missing this one!

"Geoff, if you're going to the LOR shareholder meeting and get a chance, I'd greatly appreciate a clarification of this 'value added services' thing. It's very important IMO as I don't fancy owning my pro rata share of All Star Wrestling and M*A*S*H syndicated re-runs."

I'll ask, but it seems that Valuer already answered the question. As for the newsgathering services, I think he meant that LOR's sats will serve as transmission hubs, not that LOR workers will actually be gathering news for ABC,etc. ABC, etc will simply lease the transponder time when they need to broadcast breaking events, methinks. I may be wrong, but that's they way I read it.

"The best bet would probably be to call Loral Investor relations and request an update. If you will be at the annual meeting, ask them there, or if you politely ask someone like Geoff, who I believe has indicated he will be at the meeting, to ask for you, he may just do it."

I will ask, actually, I was thinking about the Tax situation of the ONSI merger as well. Unless, of course, Mr. Schwartz or someone else answers the question, or someone else asks, before I have a chance to ask.

Finally, on the Direct Stock Purchase Plan -- I would love to see one started, a means to invest small incremental amounts in LOR is VERY appealing. This is why I placed the "Does LOR have a DRIP" question on the FAQ, because I wanted to see what kind of interest there was in that. Looking at the LOR FAQ guestbook, you can plainly see that shareholders are in favor of such an idea -- without LOR's issuing a dividend. I will definitely be asking if LOR mgmt has any plans to offer a Direct Purchase Plan!

I know I'll support such a shareholder proposal myself. BTW, does anyone know how to file one? Can a whole bunch of shareholders sponsor a shareholder proposal? How does this work?

Thanks,

geoff
