It does indeed. Great post.

From what I've seen, 3DFX's 2nd gen chip is essentially on allocation to just two add on video board makers, Diamond and Creative. Seems like at least a really good beginning. Whether they can keep that area sweat is another matter, right?

It's not clear to me however what their edge is in DVD. It's a standard that has taken years to work out and is very well known, given Hollywood's software piracy concerns and threats to withhold product.

Haven't all the Japanese consumer electronics manufacturing and marketing behemoths got this product pretty squarely in their sights?

If Creative doesn't have significant patent or copyright protection, what does it use to win against Sony, Matsushita/Panasonic, Toshiba, etc? (In the sound card situation they provided a product regarded as too small niche for years, and when everyone woke up, they had the standard that the game etc. software was writing to, with legacy titles which board buyers wanted supported. Pretty different from DVD, no? More like CD-Rom?)

Fred, Thank you for a very elaborate analysis of Creaf. I understand that they were in the video conference product for PC a few years back, are they still doing that? If not, why did they quit?
Thanks,
RT
