The main point is to give individuals the choice.

A subsidiary point is, people think differently,
so what to you may be robust to me may be
annoying and vice-versa.

Of these two, I think the first is much the more
important.

A third point is, there's nothing in the coffeehouse
form that prevents click-the-number references to
responses to follow individual lines of thought.
I agree I find that occasionally very useful. Usually,
though, it's useful because there are so many posts
I can't reasonably follow them in sequence.

This is exactly why I think
I would put most of the threads I follow in coffeehouse
form, given the choice, because it makes it much easier
to skim a volume of posts.

It's also why I would really like to have different order
available for (my choice of) the two thread formats.
