Hi Pat, thanks for that great site on Hong Kong Telecom Interactive Multimedia Services.
HKT is certainly a great harbinger of things to come and probably will serve as a model for many other companies. (Check out: itvhk.com from the site you referenced. It must be created in the same way the site Pigboy referenced in an earlier post (http://www.exchange2000.com/~wsapi/investor/reply-4033794). I find it phenomenal).

I've been disappointed with GTE in the way they are handling their deployment, on many different levels -- except that it brings public awareness to ADSL and signals a beginning. It came as a surprise to me that GTE would use Orckit in its initial deployment. The cost per line Orckit is receiving has been said not to be profitable in the short run and GTE went with them because they were so cheap. It can't be considered a trial, or can it? I'm hung up on patent issues I don't fully understand.

On the Westell thread a DR. TECH, who must be someone in the know at Westell, gave some insight on the GTE deployment. "Shame on them" he says, and that instead of being a gorilla they turned out to only be a "chimp". I imagine you have read his posts, but if you haven't they seem to be informative: (http://www.exchange2000.com/~wsapi/investor/personalprofile-4536788)

Thanks again for the HKT references, it's one of my favorite holdings.

All the best,
Michael

[Memories]

Hi Pat,

Yes, I remember when we were busy knotting together the disparate strands of the world's phone companys. Learned alot of geography! These past couple of years I've taken a quantum jump from bongos to copper to fiber optic to digital satellite to God knows what's next. My current portfolio is a potpouri of trend setters (toys, IT services, advertising, energy, etc.) reflecting my reticent to charge head strong into a uncertain future. Admittedly not as exciting as Amati. Oh, I do have a small position in Spectrum where I'm able to keep in touch with you. You're as amazingly tireless as ever.

Best Regards
Steve
