Chris, I'm not sure what Abraham and Ishmael have to do with the race of people commonly referred to as Jews. Abraham is the Patriarch ("father") of the Israelites, who indeed wandered 40 years in the wilderness. But whether Abraham was a member of the future race called "Jews" I don't know. I suspect that the physical characteristics of the race of Jews came into being under Moses, during the 40 years of wandering in the desert of the Sinai peninsula. The "proof" of my statement that there is a class of people referred to as Jews who are a race is this: A large percentage of Jews I have known have swarthy complexions and predominate noses. That may seem blunt to say, but nevertheless it's a fact. I'm not an expert on races, and I'm not pretending to be. But I know physical characteristics when I see them, and that to me says "common descent or origin".
