Christine, I think the word 'Sephardic' relates to the Jews who, in or following the diaspora, ended up to the West, largely in the Iberian Pen¡nsula. Yaacov would know for sure. Anyway, I think the word was invented after Christ - although, I don't know, it may have had another meaning previously.

Maybe you meant 'Semitic'. This would include both Jews and Arabs, as well as other tribes, which mythology has it are descended from the Shem of the Bible.
