I should add to my last message that multiple processors will be required for a number of other applications besides Java. Speech recognition is one example.

Without a scalable MP architecture it will be impossible to keep up with the performance demands of the next decade. Intel's competitors would be well served to wake up to this fact.

RE:High speed, real time Java compilation/execution performance will require multiple CPU's. Intel is well positioned with Merced. Cyrix appears to have no interest. Sun Microsystems undoubtably has plans here. Pravin's suggestion that Cyrix pursue Java performance is well taken.

I disagree. A very awesome programming language, but... Not important when almost the entire world runs Windows. If Microsoft is dying and I'm not aware of it, fill me in.
