[International conference on VDSL, April 20-21, London]

first reference that i remember of coms interest in vdsl... believe BT Labs has tested orctf vdsl and Harris of course is orctf vdsl silicon partner... CSELT is the Telecom Italia Group Company for research, experimentation and qualification in telecommunications and information technology.... may be orctf connections there...

"...Satellite operators can use their downlink to provide seemingly limitless data capacity. Cable operators have the capability of delivering high bit rate services to domestic premises, thanks to the cable/optical fibres that pervade most conurbations. VDSL enables telecom operators to compete in the ever-expanding domestic information market, especially with the uptake of Internet-based applications and video-on-demand. The convergence of TV and computer technologies may come about sooner than we think. "

The conference has guest speakers from: ADSL Forum, BT Laboratories, Ericsson, Harris Semiconductor, CSELT, and 3COM

internet telephony info is up for gte adsl (4/20)... very short... very thin... according to them, orctf is fujitsu's "marketing partner"... doesn't sound like they have quite figured this one out yet..

savol: "orctf share of revenues @ "...$70-80 million, and perhaps more, over a period of one to two years..." and "...300,000 lines in one to two years..." might be a little on the high side... but no matter how you slice it, is significantly more than the previously largest announced orctf win: the 1000 lines with lu in the netherlands... :)"

this would effectively increase orckit's revenues by over 600% from the current level, and this is one agreement. you'd think this stock would be trading at $40 - the price Texas Instruments paid for Amanti

No sorry I don't. This came across the wire today. Orckit added to a list of new emerging companies for the New Economy. (but I guess we already knew that :)

Stock Index For The New Economy Introduced

Next Wave 100(TM) Comprised Of Leading Small-Cap Technology Companies

Represents The Growth Engines of Today's Innovation Driven Economy

GREAT NECK, N.Y., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Next Wave Stocks ( nextwavestocks.com ), the magazine on the Internet that provides "Intellectual Capital for the Professional Investor," today announced the introduction of the Next Wave 100a Index. The Next Wave 100 is the first stock index to track the performance of leading small-cap technology companies in three sectors: Information, Industrial, and Bio/Med Technologies, the most important growth engines of today's information and knowledge driven economy.

Joshua Z. Levine, Editor of Next Wave Stocks, said: "While accepted benchmarks of small-cap performance do exist, these indexes generally include stocks with market caps averaging around $1 billion and ignore a huge cross-section of smaller high-tech companies that are already making their mark. In addition, none of the major indexes reflect the broad diversity of technology industries.

"Considering that technology is the primary growth driver in the new economy today, it is surprising that the major indexes neglect the small-cap segment of the most vital industries. Now, with the introduction of the Next Wave 100 as a feature of our on-line magazine, investment professionals and individual investors can readily use our Web site to monitor comparative stock performance and data, news and analysis of the companies in this index."

Technology businesses now make up about 12 percent of the U.S. Gross National Product, and almost 16 percent of the S&P 500 composite index are technology stocks. Of 11 sectors tracked by IBES International Inc., technology has the highest expected long-term earnings growth, at 21%, compared with 16% for all the companies IBES tracks. In 1998 alone, even after the latest round of downward revisions, they are expected to grow 26%, only behind health care. As a group, technology earnings have grown 28% a year in the last five years.

Incredibly, most technology companies are still in their infancy. Many of today's industry leaders were smallfries or even nonexistent only a decade ago. For example, many of the largest technology stocks in the S&P 500 were only added to the index this decade, such as Microsoft (1994), Dell Computer (1996), Silicon Graphics (1995), Sun Microsystems (1992), Cisco Systems (1993) and 3Com (1995). The relative old-timers are Compaq (1988) and Intel (1971).

The only barometer devoted exclusively to small-cap technology stocks, the Next Wave 100 includes many of the fastest-growing high technology companies in industries such as computer networking, software, semiconductor manufacturing, the Internet, communications (Information Technologies); semiconductor and automation equipment, lasers, scientific instrumentation, advanced materials (Industrial Technologies), and biotechnology, biomedical and drug delivery (Bio/Med Technologies). The average market value of the 100 companies in the index is approximately $180 million.

Next Wave Stocks is a leading Internet-based information resource for investors in small-cap technology companies. In addition to extensive coverage on stocks, the site's ongoing features include Directories of Investment Bankers and Science & Technology Mutual Funds, Databases of Private Placements and Mergers & Acquisitions, as well as several market columns and interviews with leading analysts and fund managers.
