I think Christine was speaking about CHARACTER. If a person can't keep the promise one makes when one marries, then it IS some indication as that person's character. Character does figure into job performance whether moral relativists will acknowledge that fact or not. Why should a politician care about any promise made to the electorate if he can't even keep the sacred vow he makes to his wife? What we need in Washington is people with some set of principles which guide them (other than the principle that they need to get re-elected). This is something we can use on both sides of the aisle in Congress and not alone in the White House and Cabinet. JLA

PS Henry Cisneros is empirical proof that your hypothesis is wrong.

Jim,

I know exactly what you mean in this post about having to hire and work with people who may be, ah, shall we say, deprived. Personally, I have noticed those same negative personality traits and behaviors in many people who do not smoke, and the ones who did but now don't are the worst of the bunch!

I'm especially wary of people who express a dislike for dogs and who would even discriminate against German Shepherds, though I myself hold a special fondness for Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers, but only partly because they do not shed.
