Hello Art,
In order for IBM to make $1.08 for the first quarter, they would have had to have bought back a lot of their shares in the quarter. How many shares are you estimating IBM bought back for your $1.08 number? What tax rate are you using? I myself, and most analysts I know, are unable to guess at these two very important numbers. Therefore, for me, any attempt to estimate IBM's earnings in any quarter has become a useless exercise.
