Thoughts on the missing big company alliances out in bio-ID land . . .

To get right to the first point, I don't think that IDX is competitive yet in the smart card biometric field. We haven't seen a product out of the company yet, and Identicator is in field testing with the Gemplus/Verifone alliance.

Mastercard (Mondex) is looking IDX over, supposedly, but has not deployed any IDX-related smart cards, either. Identicator is also flirting with Mastercard.

Polaroid has its own digital fingerprint system, and has teamed recently with Visionics in the West Virginia driver's license program. Diebold may have tried out IDX (we're not sure), but is now testing a combination of Visionics and voice recognition.

IDX has had two or three sales to banks on bio-ID without partnering with anyone, but a couple of those banks are in Asia, so . . . . most of that is not happening right now. I expect to see more deals, there, eventually.

Meanwhile, Identix has announced new F3 bio-ID technology that we expect will be unveiled this month. We hope to see deals announced, as well.

I think that I am relying heavily at this point on the future success of the F3 products to grow the company beyond its obviously thriving fingerscanning (i.e., hardware intensive) businesses. We are approaching a turning point, here, and will see whether IDX will be a successful small company or a successful large company -- whether the stock gets to go to $40 or $400 a share.

What do you all think?
