I made my first VO-IP call today. It was trans-Atlantic, over a VPN. I'm disappointed to say that the connection was less than satisfactory. I would actually term it "awful". The technology used was computer to computer, over standards based voice compression and delivery.
As a result of this call today, I am of the opinion that VO-IP has a long way to go before it becomes a reality. There are too many integration issues to be considered (voice compression codecs, bandwidth usage, sequencing , to mention a few). The industry in my belief is in its infancy, and many many issues are still in need of being addressed before it is adopted en masse.

P.S. this is not intended to be a derisive post toward DGIV by any means. I continue to be a stockholder, and look forward to the time when technology matches user demand.
