BURLINGTON, Mass., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Bus-Tech, Inc. today announced
a working relationship with Adaptec (NASDAQ:ADPT) to bring innovative Storage
Area Network solutions to S/390 mainframe and enterprise server environments.
Bus-Tech integrates Adaptec's AHA(R)-2940UW and AHA-3940UW Ultra SCSI adapter
technology into its DataBlaster(TM) 2 family of data movement products.
Bus-Tech also intends to integrate Adaptec's range of Ultra2 SCSI and Fibre
Channel technology into its next-generation development strategy that will
deliver even higher performance and flexible Storage Area Network connectivity
options. This announcement underscores both companies' commitment to
cooperate and innovate within the Storage Area Network market and to offer
customers powerful, flexible connectivity options that address IS concerns for
performance, scalability, investment protection, and cost of ownership.
"Adaptec offers Bus-Tech leading-edge I/O technologies and incredible
support. This relationship strengthens Bus-Tech's position in the Storage
Area Network market and provides our customers with both the highest
performance solution available and the ability to evolve to newer and more
robust technologies," said Gerry Machi, vice president and general manager of
Bus-Tech's DataBlaster business.
According to Karin Champagne, business marketing manager in the OEM
solutions group at Adaptec, Inc. "Bus-Tech is an innovative developer of data
center connectivity products that deliver high performance data movement
solutions at very competitive costs. We have enjoyed working with Bus-Tech to
integrate our high-performance Ultra SCSI technology into Bus-Tech's
DataBlaster 2 product family. We will continue to deliver robust SCSI and
Fibre Channel solutions to our customers to maximize their ability to build
performance, scalability, and reliability into their products."

About DataBlaster 2
DataBlaster 2 is the fastest and most cost-effective method for moving
data between S/390 mainframes and enterprise servers such as IBM RS/6000,
HP/UX, Sun Solaris, Digital UNIX and Windows NT. The solution provides system
and database administrators with the ability to transfer, load, back up and
restore gigabytes of data in minutes, rather than hours.
Bus-Tech's DataBlaster 2 is a family of high-performance control units,
differentiated only by port configuration, that reach their high throughput
levels by emulating industry-standard tape drives at each side of the
connection. On the mainframe side, they connect up to two S/390 ESCON
(Enterprise Systems Connection) or Bus and Tag channels, providing throughput
speeds of up to 32 megabytes per second (MB/s). On the enterprise server
side, up to four Ultra SCSI connections using Adaptec's AHA-2940UW and
AHA-3940UW Ultra SCSI adapters are attached to enterprise servers providing
data movement speeds up to 40 MB/s. With no additional software or network
switching equipment, DataBlaster 2 results in simple, reliable parallel data
transfers at rates up to 25 times faster than traditional networking methods
-- without impacting the network and with minimal impact on server or
mainframe CPU cycles.
DataBlaster 2 products are available worldwide from Bus-Tech, Bus-Tech
resellers and OEMs and range in price from $13,000 to $38,000 depending on
port configuration.
