A newly admitted inmate is being shown around the prison by one of the older inmates. After awhile they go into the lunch room to eat. As they sit down, someone yells, "22!!!", at which point everyone in the lunch room laughs hilariously. After a few more minutes, another inmate yells out, "36!!!". Again, everyone busts out laughing. The rookie inmate turns to the old-timer and asks, "What's with the numbers and all the laughing?". The old-timer replies, "When you've been here as long as we have, well, you've heard every damn joke there is to tell. After a while we just decided to number all the jokes. So, when someone calls out the number, we all remember the joke and everybody gets a good laugh". The rookie inmate says, "Sounds good to me". A minute passes, the rookie stands up and yells,"44!!!" Everyone in the room looks at him and mumbles, then looks away. The rookie, feeling somewhat embarrassed, asked the old-timer, "What's the matter? Ain't there a number 44?". The old-timer replied," Sure there is sonny, but some people can tell a joke and some others can't!".
