I thought around 5 million or so for a full quarter. VSGN only contributed about a
month of revenues so maybe contribution of VSGN about 2 million this q. Need to
check though. If 2 mil, then around 44.5 for Borl which seems fine to me. Again though I
have to check. They have split the revenue numbers now so need to think about this a bit more. The margins for these segments will be different and so the profit comparisons will be distorted.

Need to do some serious digging here to see just how they did this q.
I used to be not concerned about earnings and revenues because the co. is in transition but with all the new money recently in the stock those mundane things take on a greater significance now!

I'd have honestly preferred to be in obscurity for another quarter or more but no such luck!

Shane.

Can anyone explain why the Shares used in the calculation of loss per share only went from 48,275 to 50,863? Shouldn't there have been an increase on the order of 12.1M shares?

Also, does anyone understand how In the quarter ended March 31, 1997, prior to the acquisition of Visigenic, Borland reported standalone revenues of $37.2 million, compared with $46.5 million for the quarter ended March 31, 1998, which includes the results of Visigenic -- a 25 percent increase while the
Total revenues only went from 43,420 to 46,486. That sure doen't seem like 25% increase.

"While external factors relating to the economic crisis in Japan resulted in a slowdown of our sales in that region, we were able to closely manage our expenses and meet our bottom-line objectives,"

On the quarter ended 12/31/97, the revenue is 43.0 million with net income 2.8 million (without Visigenic). Borland try to avoid compare with previous quarter because this is not a good quarter. So, we have income statement compare with same quarter last year while balance sheet compare with previous quarter.

IMHO, Visigenic will be the most critical piece for Borland for the coming quarters. On 4/29, Borland will announce the fruits of its acquisition of ORB vendor - Visigenic with the delivery of its Object Application Server. Borland has to make something out of this; otherwise ...
