Brightpoint Chooses Informix for Scalable Global
Enterprise Distribution Management System

Wireless Handset Distribution Leader Experiences Exponential
Growth With Custom Informix-Based Inventory, Order and Financial
Management Applications

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1998-- Informix Corporation
(NASDAQ:IFMX - news), the leading provider of innovative database technology, today
announced that Brightpoint, Inc. (NASDAQ:CELL - news), an international leader in the
distribution of wireless communications products, has chosen Informix(R) technology to
support its enterprise distribution, financial control and order entry systems.

An Informix customer since 1995, Brightpoint continues to invest in Informix technology,
with recent purchases of software and services to be deployed over the next three years.
Brightpoint is deploying an Enterprise Distribution Management system based on
Informix Dynamic Server(TM) and custom software from Endura Software Corporation.
Since choosing Informix technology, Brightpoint has experienced business growth in
excess of 85%, and has expanded the system from the U.S. into Asia, Europe and Latin
America, with plans to add online ordering and fulfillment centers in four regions. As part
of its most recent contract, Brightpoint has also purchased INFORMIX-4GL(TM),
INFORMIX-ESQL(TM) and INFORMIX-SQL(TM) application development tools in order
to further develop and customize its mission-critical applications.

''Brightpoint has transitioned rapidly from a small company with almost no IT
infrastructure to a publicly traded corporation with a world-class IT system,'' stated Mike
Mosher, vice president of Corporate Information Technology at Brightpoint. ''We could
not have achieved this without the vision and customer service of the people at Informix
and Endura, and the power, scalability and open architecture of Informix's database
technology. With Informix and Endura as our global business partners, we have been
able to implement a system that addresses today's requirements for instantaneous
management information and enables us to take advantage of future business
opportunities.''

''Companies are increasingly developing and deploying enterprise-wide applications on
which they run their entire business. They are demanding a foundation database that is
fast, robust, flexible and extensible,'' stated Dan Leighton, executive director of product
marketing at Informix. ''Informix is well positioned to respond to this need by offering a
high-performance, open-architecture database that can be integrated with both the
major business-critical applications and with leading application development tools. We
are extremely pleased that Brightpoint continues to invest in Informix technology.''

Brightpoint's Enterprise Distribution Management system leverages the speed,
customizability and flexibility of Informix Dynamic Server as its database foundation. As
a result of its investment in Informix technology, Brightpoint is able to manage the
distribution of wireless communication products to customers worldwide, and to track
and forecast inventory levels in warehouses around the world. Additionally, the system
has enabled Brightpoint to expand its business into new, value-add logistics and
distribution services for its customers. For example, Brightpoint provides nationally
recognized retailers and cellular telephone service providers like BellSouth Mobility
DCS with complete outsourcing of its cellular phone procurement, packaging and
fulfillment operations.
