Skeeter, it's not the earnings that matter but rather the perception of what will happen in the future. The whiz kids at Wall Street have no way of fairly pricing a company like AMZN because the future potential is so great. Therefore the stock is free to rise almost exponentially on any good news. Just take a look at Market Guide, 7th Level Inc., etc. To stand in the way of the greatest bull market in history is a ticket to failure. The greater fool theory at it's finest, but this time it's the people who are short who are the fools.
