Thanks for the comeback.

BTW (OT), what do you make of the filed lawsuit against CPQ by disgruntaled shareholders. I currently hold a large position of CPQ at a much higher valuation. Your opinion would be most welcome.

David.

Actually I think it is just the opposite-right now we are weeding out the weak manufacturers. Gateway will survive for the time being since they are strong in the consumer market which appears to be healthy. Since they are changing their approach towards the corporate/business market I would assume they are not seeing much success there yet.
Obviously since they have not preannounced they will meet or be close to earnings estimates but I am concerned that they will not perform as well as may be expected in this market. However this market seems to care very little about the near term is is focusing more on the 3-5 year horizon.
As for Dell I think it is overvalued. Granted they may be better able to compete in a market where component prices are falling daily but it is just a matter of time before CPQ, IBM, HWP can manufacture like DELL. IMHO jon

Hi Skeeter,

<dell and gtw being successful just means more companies get in this biz down the road and they fall harder later, imho.>

IMO, you have this backwards. The more successful Dell and GTW are the harder it is for others to enter the market and make an impact. On the contrary, as the top few players get stronger I think you will see more consolidation not more new startups.

<gtw made a nice turn - though 1 q is often not long enough to reward a company like gtw has been rewarded.>

Which is really the exception; the 1-2 quarters were GTW had difficulties or the many, many quarters proceeding and the last two (I'm including this one) following the "downturn"?

For the record, I have no position in any of the box makers at this time, but I have made good money off of GTW in the past (bought it when it IPO'd and obviously which I still had it). The Ted Waitt/Gateway story is a remarkable, if not unbelievable, success story over the last 11 years. It would take something major to happen before I would bet against Ted.

BTW, IMO, IBM does defy logic and has for some time.

Good luck to all,

FF
