David,
The Micrascan IV may be a name of my own making - I can't recall if it's been used by folks at the company. It makes sense that the 193 nm step and scan will be called Micrascan IV, since it's the next generation in that product line. BTW, 193 nm is (probably!) what I was referring to. It's the product that 6 or 7 companies put up 5 million each for investment costs so that they could secure first rights to production. If I'm remembering right, it is supposed to be capable of .13-.18 resolution. Last I had heard(half a year ago), they were saying there should be a prototype in 2nd half of 98. It's not too surprising if that date was overoptimistic, as it would be consistant with lithography forecasts so far. CY vs. FY does complicate the understanding! I'm dissapointed with SVGL, but not completely negative- I'm currently counting on the MSIV (or whatever it is) release to generate a certain amount of fanfare as the first next generation stepper. Also I'm speculating that Intel will need to purchase more lithography equipment (hopefully SVGL) to enable Merced production. It seems reasonable, but Intel seems like it will make or break SVGL in the coming year given the huge exposure. Add in a possible Acer order to come, and AMAT's appetite to acquire a lithography division. Their house should be in order to do so if all sides are willing. Not time for me to sell, even though visibility is at an all time low. I guess that means volatile times.. book value is my sole consolation!
