I can't agree with the "twice the price/performance" thing. Where did you come up with that figure?

That's what you get if you buy the current generation G3s. You can buy a G3 at 275MHz that's twice as fast as the same priced pentium machine. Apple had about a %20 performance edge when they went to the PowerPC, but that has widened dramatically since them. (I'm a shareholder of Intel, btw. I like Intel, but until they change the architecture and move everyone over to a modern architecture they are going to be behind performancewise. They will do this soon.)

As far as inits go, I think its a good idea to go thru and pare down anything you don't really need. This can have a dramatic affect on performance as well as stability. I run a rather straight system. My biggest problems come from the OLE extentions-- they are notorious. I suspect the ones that come with office 98 are much better.
