How does NYSE stocks trade?

Certainly not with a MM (middle man, market maker, etc.) like NASDAQ.

Not MM but a Specialist. Next time Maria B. reports on CNBC look
in the background and you'll see the "posts".These are the various areas on the exchange floor where a Specialist in a particular stock
resides. If you want to trade the stock your order gets relayed from your broker to his floor trader who in turn goes to the post for that stock and believe it or not, negotiates your trade.

NYSE is mostly open outcry as opposed to NASDAQ which is 100% electronic.
