Dear Jane,
Remember when we were talking about reverance for the Father? This would fall into that area and is an act of respect by some and I accept it as that. Everyone has their own level and way of showing respect. The Lord taught the Lords prayer by starting Our Father, in Heaven, HALLOWED be your NAME, that is respect and even for the name of God. You have seen my posts and know I do not use this but I respect people who do. It was based on the the commandements that you shall not take the Name of the Lord your God in vain. Jesus on the other hand used His name freely. Then in Revelation it says He will come with a new name that no one has ever blasphemed. So the names of God are to be revered in whatever way a person sees fit. I prefer to see to much reverance verse not enough.
I pray the Lord bless you, Nancy

><>...Dear Jane, it is believed that the name of God is so sacred..><>

that the Jews cannot write it out in full, because if the paper should become spoiled on which the name of God was written out that it would profane His Holy name.

And I suppose the O is left out since Hebrew has no actual vowels.
Donald gave you his reason. I gave you his Rabbi's reason.

Have a blessed evening all

Ps 133:1-3
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
