>>For future - however - if MSFT integrates security right into NT5
Enterprise security is not web browser that can be easily integrated. Firewall is just one aspect. Part of the reason that Checkpoint bought Metainfo is that they want to provide a full solution from firewall to IP based VPN. There are also encryption issues where SDTI is the leader. MSFT is still way behind. The ideal case that they want to see is the CTXS modal. If MSFT do want to compete, it will not be as easy as the web browser case where they can give it out for free. In addition, NT is not going to be as successful as Windows where they can snap that kind of high market share in the personal level. In the enterprise level, CHKPF will be highly competitive in multiple platforms, not to mention their already 40%+ market share.

Jay,

If ever there were a buying opportunity now would be it, I'm still hesitent due to mkt correction in the air.

MSFT can't compete until NT is on a ubiquitous platform. Justice dept assertions against MSFT must be taken seriously. Here's just one example.

MS FrontPage Client is fully functional on an NT Server with FP extensions. MS FrontPage Client is 90% functional on Unix box running Netscape Enterprise Server with FP extensions (written and supported by a third party, not MS direct). Reason is due to support for dynamic security.

MS continues a policy of monopolistic behavior, Justice will inevitably inflict penalties. Firewall mkt requires strong security focus, MSFT cannot cut it.

MS threat is vaporware, but does create a heck of a buying opportunity.

I'm anticipating a 3 point recovery tomorrow, so, DRISK will do well.

roger, analog, and I will have to wait.

Hi Jay,
Well, glad tomorrow is not options expiration day! My 30s cleared and now have some 35s. Bought some more shares today around 34, what a shame I did not wait until later in the day. Tim

Jay, Roger, Frank: I've been following and appreciating (Thank You) your analyses / discussion of CHKPF over the past several months.....and like (?) you stalwarts this minnow is somewhat flummoxed by today's drop....seems to defy all reasoning ...particularly when all the "Internet stocks' are in the wrong orbit!
A few questions:

I wonder whether or not the "non-Kosher" treatment of this stock is partly based on the fact that this is not a US based company. Do you have any views?

The Ballmer report was ( per Globes article) published on April 21 st.
What's with the sudden magnification of his views on earnings announcement day? Any theories?

To Jay ( who appears to have an appreciated grasp of the technicalities): I would have thought that a tried and tested Security system (CHKPF's Firewall )would be preferred over a newer system (read MSFT Proxyserver). Are these security programs updated / modified periodically, or are they sold as set pieces? Afterall, I imagine a determined hacker could eventually penetrate a "standardised" system.

Regards
