A History of Power : SI ....cont'd....

Earthside, Beijing, Biosoft Labs, 2033

Chu Mei definitely did not like the way the program was currently responding. The carefully crafted algorithms, which should be harnessing the latent microelectric energies in the living tissue, were not doing what Chu Mei had expected. The Biosoft AI, ARCUS agreed, there was definitely something wrong. In a fit of nervousness Chu Mei flipped a switch and uttered the instructions which would disconnect the biosoft from the Net. The effect was instantaneous.

Blackening readouts formed immediately on Chu Mei's data displays and his Vgear stopped working. Stripping his rig and moving to 2D didn't help much, something had happened here and Chu Mei was not sure what it was. He queried his ARCUS connect and recieved nothing to illuminate the problem. His data displays dropped off one by one leaving on a pale glow where he should have seen streaming data. Whatever had happened was still happening.

Looking to his tool set, Chu Mei selected a piece of blackware retrieved from a data haven earlier in the year. Crafted out of Hong Kong, it was a sophisticated piece of Isoft with many capabilities, he had found little occasion to use it. It was essential that Chu Mei have some idea of what was happening before he called upstairs to make his report, they would want to know. He ported the soft to the running system and waited to see what would happen.

The 2d displays rapidly reasserted themselves, though the streaming data did not appear as dense as Chu Mei would have thought. Slipping into his Vgear he waited patiently for the clearing that soon manifested. The landscape that Chu Mei had previously visited had changed dramatically. Chu Mei had been using Worldnet access to create an environment he found it soothing. He had disconnected and was not sure what he would see when he returned. When the darkness lifted from the virtual scene he found himself in an abstract shifting scene of color and shapes, he willed himself forward to a place of apparent action, a swirling maelstrom of color and shape, that was when it hit him, hard and fast, he didn't stand a chance.
