Just saw this fascinating thread on the New Topics list. I have a question for you all about the future of music delivery.

If you're like me, you may get annoyed having to buy a $12-$20 CD to get a few tracks that you really enjoy plus a lot of filler and garbage. As a consumer, I'd much prefer to buy and download by the track, even at a premium, just to avoid having to fast forward through what are to me garbage songs! For instance, suppose I wanted to buy just Locomotive Breath on Jethro Tull's Aqualung album; is there a way to do this now, or is there a company with plans to deliver music in this fashion?

Certainly the technology to realize this purchase mode is in place. Digitized tracks, good search engines, agent technology to suggest tracks/artists that would appeal based on the selections I'd made, etc.

Why hasn't this form of music purchasing emerged? Or has it and I've been living on Jupiter?
