I would think that the Ericsson G* phone will seek a land-based GSM signal first and if it cannot find one, it will go to the satellite. This would be similar to the dual mode CDMA-analog phones, which seek the CDMA signal and if one is not there go to analog in a seamless web. That way, the consumer can use his same handset anywhere and utilize G* satellite only when necessary.
