Thank you. Very clear and helpful. My interest is in the GSM phone itself and the requirement for "satellite" , a.k.a. G*CDMA, chips and overall licenses from Qualcomm. Does anyone here know what the differences (if any) are between terrestrial CDMA and G*CDMA and if the G* overlay is the same as that tested by Vodaphone/Qualcomm for use in Europe?

This is just speculation on my part but I believe there's a good chance that Ericsson is seriously looking at the technology of Microvision (MVIS). MVIS has patented technology called Virtual Retinal Display (VRD) that the CEO stated could be integrated into cell phones in 2 years.

Very simplistically stated, VRD paints pixels via laser beam to the back of the eye using the retina as the screen. In a cell phone it could allow once to access the internet, check e-mail and surf and you would have the same effect as looking at your monitor at home. It also doesn't take up your whole field of vision so you could be walking down the street, driving a car, etc.

Below is a link I posted from a newscast last night. Ericsson already has a connection to MVIS through Saab/Ericcson, which specializes in avionics. There is also a mystery client and my guess is it's Ericsson Telephone. Imagine what it would do for both companies if Ericsson could market this 2 years from now. The broadcast stated such which was news to those of us who follow MVIS regularly.
