Well, are you going to have your children sleep on the couch when they come home from boarding school?

I really cannot understand how you think not giving a child a room to come home to is no big deal. Obviously, it caused enormous pain for the child involved, who did not perceive it as a minor injury. While it is true that children are resilient, and can bounce back from a few minor injuries (I don't know why you put it in quotes because they really ARE injuries), if the assaults on self-esteem are repeated, as they were in the Reagan household, real damage occurs to the child in question. And adopted children are already more fragile than natural children, and are looking around constantly to be sure that they really belong to the family that adopted them.
